Shorts On Tap, London’s fastest growing event for filmmakers and film lovers, is set to bring to the city a groundbreaking new film series exploring women’s’ diverse identity in April with help from Film Hub London.

The Shorts On Tap team will deliver a series of three short film events that will explore what it means to be a woman in the 21st century. Club des Femmes, a queer-feminist film club, will guest curate a programme of classic and contemporary queer-feminist artists’ film and video work entitled Body of Work.

Over three weeks an impressive list of up-and-coming and established female filmmakers will share their latest films on a range of themes including the body, FGM, sex and control. The events will take place in the London boroughs of Waltham Forest, Lewisham and Southwark.

As with every Shorts On Tap screening, audiences will be able to discuss the films directly with the people who made them. Confirmed speakers include Beryl Richards, Chair of Directors UK, Daisy Gili, founder of London Film Academy and Aurora Fearnley, director of hotly-anticipated feature film Pulsar, starring Interstellar’s David Gyasi.

Shorts On Tap Founder, Filippo Polesel / Michele Fiascaris, says:

“We’re really excited about the Women in Revolt series because we’ve selected some of the best work from the most talented women making short films in London to screen.”

“The series will look at themes like challenge, control and the body politic as well as topical issues and how they affect women. Shorts on Tap is all about creating a place for filmmakers and film lovers to come to see new work from new talent in the industry and we’re pleased to be bringing filmmakers and audiences closer together.”

Club des Femmes co-founder, Selina Robertson, says:

“We are delighted to have been invited to guest curate for Shorts on Tap and to have the opportunity to show some classic and contemporary queer-feminist artists’ film and video work to younger audiences”.

The first event in the Women in Revolt series entitled ‘The Chase’ is at the Stow Film Lounge, Walthamstow on Easter Monday, April 6. This is followed by ‘Crossing Boundaries’ at Deptford Cinema on April 13 and ‘Body Of Work’ at Elephant and Castle’s Hotel Elephant on April 20.

More details about the Women in Revolt series can be found on the Shorts on Tap website.
